Hello friends! So as some of you may know, I am engaged, betrothed, and affianced - and so I hereby introduce you to part 1 of our 4 part wedding video series! Being the fashion history enthusiast that I am, I decided to do a little exploration into wedding dresses through history and try on 5 authentic vintage wedding dresses (with era-appropriate hairstyling, makeup, and bouquets to boot!) - ranging from the Victorian Era to the 1980s! Which look was your favorite?

As a choco queen myself, the pictures of black people in the older bridal fashions were really cool to see. I’ve never seen a photo of an authentic black flapper before.

The fashion for white wedding dresses was begun by Queen Victoria. Before her brides would marry wearing their best dresses. The Victoria dress was not only to show her virginity, but to show that she was rich enough to pay for keeping the dress pristine. All fancy wedding dresses down the ages have demonstrated wealth levels. It's expensive cleaning a dress festooned with hand-knotted lace flowers and made of pure silk.

Corsets were still worn in the 1930s, but the fashionable shape changed, so the shape of the corsets changed. It didn't have to do with size. Just shape.

I really liked the 1920's look!😂 Also, can hemlines go down instead of keep going up? It's starting to get uncomfortable!😂😂😅

This is the bomb. Trying to figure out which look was the best. I am between the 20's and the 40's maybe because I love that era. You did this justice.

Ahhh, the peacocking of women. Dressing them up and showing them off. As it was, hopefully....it will not always be.

I love the 1920s and 1940s ones! The 20s one is cute and looks fun amd kinda comfy, and the 40s one is so classy and elegant.

I made my sister’s first wedding dress. I made most of my, and my daughter’s clothing, so I agreed to do it. Sister wanted sleeves off one pattern, bodice of another, skirt of another, and a hat with flowers and veiling. Everything was sequins and pearls. All had to be done in 6 weeks. I sewed in the day, mom hand sewn sequins and pearls in the evening. All done, I swore to never sew, or talk to my sister again. Next two, she was on her own.

That thing on the 1940 s dress is called a peplum. I lobe how fashion changed so dramatically. My mother said going to the USO was a patriotic thing to do. It was important to remind the soldiers "why they were fighting for America.". She was single then and had a blast during the war!

What a disappointment. I thought I was going to learn things about clothing. Instead of got lots of silliness passing as entertainment with very little actual education. I guess this perfectly demonstrates how people get dumbed down.

I loved the flapper dress but the mod look overall and that fab 1980s veil. I made a dress much like that for my sister in law. Her veil was a bit less poufy, but similar in outline. I wish I could share it some how, but you are well saturated and now long past this.

Fun fact: corsets weren't uncomfortable! Corsets were the predecessor to the bra not the spanx 😉. It is also used as a back supporter and could help support all the layers of petticoats.
